The E/PO Principal Investigator must be affiliated with a U.S. institution. If the science Principal Investigator is not from a U.S. institution, a U.S. Co-Investigator may be designated as the E/PO Principal Investigator (see the CFP for details).
The spirit of the program is to encourage collaborative efforts between professional astronomers/space scientists and professional educators that broaden the knowledge and understanding of the latest discoveries of the Hubble Space Telescope.
An HST Cycle E/PO proposal must have clear intellectual linkage to the science and/or science theme of the parent research program(s).
The proposed E/PO program must focus on education and/or public outreach in the U.S.
There are three HST Cycle 22 E/PO funding categories:
Individual –- An HST Cycle 22 GO/AR/SNAP Principal Investigator or Co Investigator may request up to $20,000 for an E/PO program. A current Hubble Fellow may also request up to $20,000 for an E/PO program.
Teamed -- A maximum of three (3) science research programs can team together, including current Hubble Fellows, at $20,000 each, for up to $60,000. (See Exceptions and Previous Funding in the CFP)
Treasury -- Programs may request up to $50,000 but are not able to request a larger funding amount through a teamed effort.
The HST Cycle 22 E/PO Call for Proposals (CFP) is available as a PDF file. Be sure to refer to the CFP in its entirety for more details and information about how to complete and submit your proposal. How to Submit a Proposal
This year we are introducing an online system for uploading and submitting Cycle 22 E/PO grant proposals. Below is an outline of steps for submitting your proposal online.
Start the process by clicking the Log In link in the navigation menu at the top of the page.
Returning users can sign in. New users should create an account by clicking the Register link.
Registration requires, at minimum, a valid email address and a self-selected password that is at least eight characters long.
(Note: If all profile information is filled in, the Principal Investigator data on the Cover Page will be automatically completed for you.
This information can be edited later if needed.)
After registering at the site, you will receive an email message with a link to confirm your account.
This page is your proposal submission portal. It will list all of your proposals and their status.
From this page, you can start a new proposal by clicking the button.
You can also edit an existing proposal that has not been submitted yet by selecting it from the list or by clicking the button.
If you like, you can auto-complete a new Cover Page with data from an existing one by clicking the button. The new Cover Page can then be edited as needed.
Important: While you may submit more than one proposal, each proposal must use a unique HST Cycle 22 science program number. An HST Cycle 22 science program number can be used only once for an E/PO proposal.
Once a proposal has been created, you can click on it or on the button to:
Create or modify a proposal Cover Page.
Review the information on the Cover Page to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Download and print the Cover Page for obtaining the signature of your institution’s authorizing official.
Upload your signed Cover Page, proposal, and other documentation using the button.
Submit your complete proposal package using the button.
Document Checklist: The following documents are required for submittal, and should be uploaded separately:
Signed Cover Page
E/PO Proposal and Budget Narrative (10 pages max.)
Budget Spreadsheet (separate from the proposal)
Science Research Program Abstract(s)
A Curriculum Vitae (CV) for each team member (Each CV 5 pages max.)
Other documentation as needed (equipment certification, letters of support, etc.)
Note: Edits and changes cannot be made to proposal packages once they have been submitted. If you need to make a change to a
submitted proposal prior to the August 27 deadline, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
